One should expect that stock to be welded, right?

I wasn't able to add one to the cart. They either ran out already, or haven't updated their site.

No. Where have you been? The AWB sunset almost 5 years ago.

Apologies for my ignorance. I was having recollections from this thread:

Different line of reasoning in there.

The one that shocks me is the AMD65. $580! Those AMD65 kits were everywhere and just absolutely dirt cheap. I bought one for something like $125 in basically new condition. Might have been less. I don't know why I only bought one? They were just so cheap and common that it didn't seem like there would ever be a lack of them! Since I built that kit into a pistol, I didn't even need any US parts. Bought a DCI US made AK pistol receiver and built it stock. Probably only have $200-$225 in that AK pistol and it is literally a blast to shoot. Works really, really well and you can easily hit whatever you can see if you just take your time.

Now "what's it good for" is another question. I could get a trench coat and legally use it for CCW. That would be a hoot but I don't really see myself doing that every day. And I've thought about getting a hard Pelican case and making it a dedicated car gun. That probably makes the most sense. It could be kept loaded since it is a pistol and covered by my CCW. A couple extra mags in the case and I could handle most situations in style.

But really, it's 90% just a fun gun.

As far as the Yugo underfolder, I paid $500 for a totally NIB .223 kit (M90). Sat on it for nearly a year waiting for DCI to make a run of the correct Yugo .223 underfolder receivers. Got my US parts all lined up. All that stuff is at my gunsmith's right now. He's up to his ears in all my stuff but I hope to have that rifle back home in a couple months. Then I'll have AK's in all three of the basic calibers: 7.62x39, 5.45x39, and 5.56mm.

Wish I could find an AK74 in 5.45 somewhere at a decent price. That surplus ammo is still waaaay cheap.

Agreed. I've got a buddy in Texas who got a great deal on 2000+ rounds of it. He bought it without a gun to fire it in. He _assumed_ he would be able to find an decent AK. Still hasn't found a gun he wants to buy for a price he wants to pay.

I guess it's my fault. He came to my house and put a few magazines through my SAR-2. A gun I paid $199 for brand new from SOG. He loved it so he bought the ammo. Now he can't find anything like my SAR-2 for a decent price. He could buy an AR upper from S&W but it does worry both of us to think about firing corrosive surplus ammo through a gas tube!
